Behind-the-scenes look at the national flag team

On the early morning of October 1, 2020, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) solemnly held the 2020 National Day flag-raising ceremony. The student national flag guard marched vigorously. The national flag was raised with the sound of the national anthem.

The student national flag team consists of more than 30 members. After fulfilling and attending training, the team made its debut in the 2020 commencement.

To make a perfect performance at the convocation ceremony, the students started their training on September 1. They practiced for nearly 3 hours a day, from the sun’s early rising to the moon rising. Sweat soaked their clothes; no one had any complaints. Most of these team members are freshmen, guarding, and raising the flag. This is their first bond with SUSTech.

The 2020 freshmen did not take the military training program as a traditional education module because of the epidemic’s impact. Some students have zero foundation for the basic movements required by the national flag team. After the practice of marching in the queue, shifting back and forth, and holding the gun, the national flag team has taken shape.

Being one of the National Flag Team is responsible for raising the National Flag of the People’s Republic of China and the University Flag. The flag bearers have cast themselves as one of the most outstanding sceneries at SUSTech.
