This year’s ROBOCON attracted students from 81 colleges and universities. SUSTech students spent ten months making the robot with multi-discipline knowledge and practice, including mechanical drawing, circuit design, single-chip microcomputer control, sensor technologies, automatic control, artificial intelligence, image processing, computer programming, and motor drag.

It was the first time for SUSTech students to participate in the Robocon competition. Under the guidance of supervisor Dong ZHANG from the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IE-School), 12 students participated in the competition, and their robot got 97 points out of 100.

ARES is a student science club integrating robot design, research and production. It was founded by the IE-School and tutored by Dong ZHANG. There are more than 20 members in the club.

As the most challenging and influential robot competition in China, ROBOCON started in 2002 and is held annually. The host country will formulate the theme and rules of the game every year. It mainly tests students’ abilities in programming, mechanical design, and electronic circuit design. It allows the contestants to build the robot within ten months.
