The winners of 2020 APAC HPC-AI Competition were announced in the SC20 held online. SUSTech students supercomputing team, the only winning university team in mainland China, won third place in the competition.
This is the first time that SUSTech students participate in APAC HPC-AI Competition. SUSTech student supercomputing team consists of 11 graduates and undergraduates, with Assistant Professor of the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering Zhiqiang LIU and Chief Engineer of the Center for Computational Science and Engineering Jing FAN as supervisors. The student supercomputing team completed all the contents and questions of the competition in nearly five months. Their performance in online defense and presentation was fully affirmed by the expert judges. In addition, due to their outstanding performance in the open questions, Yiqi ZHANG, Tongzhou GU, and other students were invited to participate and deliver professional technical reports in the NVIDIA GTC China online conference held in December this year.
APAC HPC-AI Competition was co-organized by HPC-AI Advisory Council and the National Supercomputing Centre Singapore. The review team is composed of experts from internationally renowned universities, research institutes and National Supercomputing centers from the United States, Australia, Singapore, and other places. The competition is open to all universities and technical institutions/teams in the Asia Pacific region. It aims to solve the challenges faced by AI development and testing, as well as the challenges of high-performance computing with a heavy load. Thirty teams from 11 countries and regions, including China, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, and India, participated in the competition. University teams include Tsinghua University, Nanyang University of Technology, University of Science and Technology of China, University of New South Wales, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The award ceremony of this competition will be held at the Supercomputing Asia 2021 conference in Singapore next year.
