SUSTech School of Public Health and Emergency Management unveiled

On November 21, the unveiling ceremony of SUSTech School of Public Health and Emergency Management and the International Forum on Health Science and Technology in the Greater Bay Area were held in SUSTech.

Shenzhen Deputy Mayor Yihuan WU, SUSTech University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO, inspector of Shenzhen Health Committee Meihua SUN, SUSTech Acting Vice President Dongfeng GU, and over 200 experts and scholars attended the events.

The SUSTech School of Public Health and Emergency Management was jointly established by the Southern University of Science and Technology, the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen, and Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Its goal is to build an international first-class school of public health and emergency management with high positioning and high quality, so as to cultivate more talents in the field of public health needed by society.

In the event, participants unveiled the School.

Meihua SUN said SUSTech had provided strong support for Shenzhen in the fight against the covid-19. At the same time, we also found that some public health systems need to be improved. She hoped that SUSTech School of Public Health and Emergency Management would introduce and cultivate a group of international level talents and innovative teams in the field of public health to help build healthy Shenzhen and healthy China.

Dongfeng GU said the School was established for the country’s needs and society and for improving people’s life and health. It is committed to personnel training, scientific research, and the transformation of innovative technologies. The School will explore the innovative mechanism to integrate “medicine, education, research, and application” and establish a new public health system.

In the Public Health Forum of the Greater Bay Area, Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, health experts and scholars from top universities like Peking University and Sun Yat-sen University had discussions on prevention and control of infectious diseases, cardiovascular and other chronic diseases, environment and health, and public health personnel training.
