2020 SUSTech Popular Science Awards Ceremony held at SUSTech

On December 27, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) held its 2020 SUSTech Popular Science Awards Ceremony. It was organized by the Faculty Committee and Trade Union Office, in conjunction with the Office of Communications & Public Relations, Office of Admission, Education Foundation, and Shuli College. University Council Vice Chairperson Fengliang LI and Vice President Chun LU attended the ceremony.

Fengliang LI fully affirmed the development of popular science of the University in 2020. He said that popular science has become a brand of the University, enriching the campus culture, and also an important embodiment of the social responsibility of the University. It is expected that the popular science advocates of SUSTech would hold more influential and distinctive activities in the new year.

Chun LU shared his experience of reading popular science books in his youth, stressed the importance of popular science for spreading scientific knowledge to teenagers, and encouraged SUSTech students to read more good popular science books. He expressed his hope that the University will give full play to the role of popular science activities as a window to communicate with the world, and make more remarkable achievements in the future.

The award ceremony presented ten different awards to staff members and students. Awards included the Best Lecturer, Best Ambassador, Best Association, Best Maker, and Biggest Society.

Associate Professor Chuanfei GUO of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering gave the last lecture on popular science in 2020, with “electronic skin” as the theme. He introduced some basic knowledge and the prospect of electronic skin.

The lecture was followed by the Parent-Child party of staff members. 14 performances were presented by children of SUSTech staff members.

In 2020, the cause of popular science of SUSTech has reached a new high. During the epidemic, 32 lectures of popular science were presented online. The enrollment lecture was also held online, with over 60 SUSTech professors giving lectures, involving over 100,000 students and parents.
