Recently, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) students participated in the 2020 Badminton Tournament. In the singles format, the women ended the day as champions and the men placed runners-up. The University finished in first place overall in the total team score. Yu SUN, World Champion and Associate Professor of SUSTech Sports Center, won the best coach award. 

The competition was a single-elimination knockout format. The badminton team participated in four single events, namely men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles. Lunhong DONG, Director of the SUSTech Sports Center, was the team leader.

In the women’s singles, Keyang WANG, a 2017 undergraduate from SUSTech Shude College, took part in the competition and won the final by a score of 2-0.

In the men’s singles, Tinghan WANG, a 2018 undergraduate from SUSTech Shude College, and Zhuoyun Li, a SUSTech student from Zhiren College finished in the top eight. It was the only university that had two players’ place in the top eight. In the end, Tinghan WANG and Zhuoyun LI finished in second and sixth place respectively.

In the men’s doubles, Shinong ZENG and Xufei ZHU, both 2020 undergraduates from SUSTech, made it into the top 16, which was the best result in the history of SUSTech men’s doubles in Guangdong province.
