Between January 14-15, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) held the 2020 Annual Department Evaluation Meeting which reviewed the progress made in 2020 and discussed the innovative plans for the coming year to progress SUSTech into a world-class research university. Qikun XUE, SUSTech President, Yurong GUO, SUSTech University Council Chairperson, members of the school leadership team, and the annual assessment group were in attendance.
President XUE expressed his gratitude to all departments of the University for their efforts and contributions. He said that 2020 was the tenth anniversary of the founding of SUSTech and extended thanks to the hard work of everyone involved at SUSTech, outstanding progress has been made in the University’s various educational undertakings. He hopes that all departments will make plans for further development in 2021 and summarize the work carried out in 2020. The University should implement new concepts and ideas that share a similar vision and strategic goals of Shenzhen in highlighting innovation and vigorously promoting high-quality development. He hopes that all teachers and staff will attach great importance to it and form a driven mentality to develop SUSTech into a world-class research university.
Yan ZHENG, Deputy Director of Office of Research, discussed the scientific research work carried out by SUSTech in 2020 from its scientific research projects, the state of affairs of each college and department, the scientific research achievements, development, and planning.
Jiao HUANG, Director of the Office of Teaching Affairs, discussed the teaching situation of each department of the University from six aspects, teaching contribution, workload, teaching reform projects and teaching awards, teaching operation, quality management, and training.
Zheng XUE, Head of the Office of Students Affairs, made a report on the employment status of undergraduates and postgraduates in each department in 2020, and the work of faculty members in each department.
Chunmiao ZHENG, Director of SUSTech Global and a member of Presidential Executive Council, introduced a draft assessment of SUSTech’s internationalization work. He explained the role of internationalization, the internationalization work program, assessment methods and procedures, and scoring methods. Fengliang LI, University Council Vice Chairperson, Dongxiao ZHANG, Vice President, and Yusheng ZHAO, Acting Vice President, and other school leaders observed the report.
Subsequently, the heads of all departments of the University made a summary of the work done and results in 2020, the existing problems and deficiencies, and the goals and priorities of 2021.
Closing remarks were made by Yurong GUO. She acknowledged the achievements of each department in 2020, especially the effectiveness of the party building work of all departments of the University, the great emphasis on the work of the teaching and education center, and the hard work of making concerted efforts to organize the 10th anniversary celebration. She pointed out that the annual year-end debriefing appraisal summarizes the school’s experience and achievements over the past year. It is an important record for the growth and development of SUSTech. She noted that the year-end briefing was important as it’s an opportunity for departments to learn from each other’s experience and to improve and promote the development of the University. SUSTech is growing stronger and stronger, with all the faculty and staff members united and working hard, demonstrating the true spirit of SUSTech.
