On the morning of December 11, 2020, Xiaodi XU, Professor of the Party School of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee was invited to give a lecture entitled “A Hundred Years of Changes and the Development of Sino-US Relations”. Fengliang LI, SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Zhiping ZHENG, Chairman of the Department of Chemistry, non-party intellectual association directors and party organization secretaries attended the event.

In his speech, University Council Vice Chairperson LI said that since the SUSTech Non-Party Intellectuals Association was set up in June 2020, it has united many academics within the University. He hopes that the Association will continue to explore and organize fruitful activities in the future. It will play an active role in uniting and consolidating the broad multitudes of non-party intellectuals based on their posts and making contributions, serving local economic development, and building a world-class research university.
Professor XU explained with his rich historical knowledge of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and what the 40th anniversary means, especially in the context of the current global epidemic situation. He spoke about the “One Belt One Road” initiative, and the building of an open platform for cooperation. Finally, he emphasized that it is necessary to recognize that China’s own reforms and development are the important factors affecting the direction of Sino-US relations.
During the interactive session, the council members raised questions regarding the impact of the US election on China and the future development trend of Sino-US relations. Professor XU elaborated his views in detail and discussed exchanges with the members.
