SUSTech adds four new majors

Recently, the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (MOE) announced the results of the filing and approval of undergraduate majors in universities for 2020. The following four majors applied for by the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) were approved by the MOE:

  • Industrial Design (080205)
  • Data Science and Big Data Technology (080910T)
  • Offshore Engineering and Technology (081902T), and
  • Intelligent Medical Engineering (101011T)

SUSTech’s education structure comprises of four main disciplines. These include science, engineering, medicine, and business, which are complemented with courses on humanities and social sciences. To date, SUSTech’s undergraduate majors have increased to 34, covering five disciplines, including 13 majors in science, 16 in engineering, 3 in business, 1 in medicine, and 1 in management.

In addition, the Office of the MOE announced the 2020 national and provincial list of first-class undergraduate programs. SUSTech’s two majors, Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering, have been selected as national first-class undergraduate programs, while Microelectronics Science and Engineering and Biological Sciences have been selected as provincial-level first-class undergraduate programs.

Since the MOE and Guangdong Province launched the “Double Ten Thousand Plan” for the creation of first-class undergraduate majors in 2019, SUSTech have been approved for 5 national-level first-class undergraduate majors and 5 provincial-level first-class undergraduate majors.
