Recently, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) appointed Qiman SHAO, Chair Professor of the Department of Statistics and Data Science (STAT-DS) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), as the co-editor of The Annals of Applied Probability. He became the first Chinese scholar to serve as a co-editor of the journal.
The Annals of Applied Probability is a top international probability journal published by IMS since 1991. It aims to publish research of the highest quality reflecting the varied facets of contemporary Applied Probability, where the primary emphasis is placed on importance and originality.
Chair Professor Qiman SHAO is the head of STAT-DS in the College of Science. He has been active in the international field of probability and statistics for a long time and mainly engages in the research of fundamental theories of probability and statistics.
He has systematically developed the theory of self-regularization, the normal and non-normal approximation of Stein’s method, and the limit theory for mixing dependent random variables. He also provides a theoretical basis for statistical inference and research methods for the application of limit theory in other fields.
He won the second class prize in the State Natural Science Award in 2015 and was elected as a Fellow of IMS in 2001. He has also served on the editorial board of top international journals of probability and statistics, The Annals of Statistics and The Annals of Applied Probability.
