On June 4, 2021, the Guangdong Provincial Government of the Communist Youth League carried out a midterm inspection of the 2020 Special Funds for the Cultivation of Guangdong College Students’ Scientific and Technological Innovation (“Climbing Program” Special Funds). It is a special fund allocated by the Guangdong Provincial Government to cultivate and enhance the ability of Guangdong university students in science and technology innovation.
Due to the ongoing epidemic of COVID-19, the evaluation review was held online. The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was among the universities participating in the program.
Nine SUSTech provincial-level projects received funding from the 2020 “Climbing Program” Special Funds. The project reports and presentations were turned in for evaluation, and after review, the overall progress of the projects was good, with some of them meeting the completion requirements.
For the first time, as the leading university of the mid-term evaluation, SUSTech took part in the preliminary organizing and liaison work. Faculty members from SUSTech were also invited to act as expert judges to evaluate similar projects from other universities.
The project review process is divided into three categories: natural science academic papers, philosophy and social science survey reports and academic papers, and scientific and technological inventions.
