On June 9, 2021, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) held its 2021 Summa Cum Lade Graduate ceremony. It was broadcasted live online, with nearly 30,000 viewers tuning in to the event.

Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, Fengliang LI, University Council Vice Chairperson, other members of the University’s leadership team, heads of various departments and academies, and representatives of Shenzhen’s educational sector and business enterprises attended the event along with professors and students of SUSTech.

In 2021, there were nearly 1,000 undergraduate graduates from six different colleges and seventeen departments throughout SUSTech. After the preliminary screening, 18 students were selected as candidates for the Top Ten Graduates of the undergraduate program. Faculty members and students then voted to decide who SUSTech’s Top Ten Graduates of 2021 would be.

Among them were scholars with major achievements who published important scientific research results and excelled in extracurricular activities by winning awards in sports or other fields. The 18 candidates were Zhuotong YU, Caijie ZHANG, Minjia CHEN, Mingshuo LIU, Xinyi GU, Haoyu LIU, Jie JI, Hao QI, Heyi LI, Jingwen YU, Shuqing LI, Yazhuo LIU, Wei HAO, Haiyang JIANG, Guoyang QIN, Yechang WU, Ting SUN, and Ziyi ZHANG,

The candidates demonstrated their experiences and gains in learning, scientific research, social practice, and campus activities through VCR presentations, personal statements, and judges’ questions and answers at the ceremony. The selection process was divided into categories of further education, employment, and entrepreneurship. The results were cast through voting by on-site judges and audience members, combined with online voting.

Qikun XUE spoke at the ceremony. He acknowledged and congratulated the candidates on their achievements. “Graduates closely link their personal ideals from the people they surround themselves with and with the prosperity in the country. I am very enthused and feel great pride in being your president at SUSTech. I hope all the graduates of SUSTech will work hard to develop their skills in the future and make significant contributions to society,” he said.

Fengliang LI then announced the winners of the Top Ten Graduates of 2021. They were:

The ten recipients of the Top Ten Graduates of 2021 gave speeches after the announcement and thanked everyone for their support and their votes.
