Recently, the Department of Physics at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and the Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR) at Tohoku University, Japan, held a joint workshop online.

Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, and other faculty members attended the online seminar.

In his speech, President Qikun XUE pointed out that both universities have deep research foundations in the field of condensed matter physics and their respective areas of focus.

By establishing a long-term and cooperative relationship, both parties can promote academic research between the two universities and both countries. They will focus on important topics such as student training, research grants, industrial transformation, promote the development of emerging fields, and working together to build a world-class university.

Faculty members from both sides held in-depth exchanges on cutting-edge theories and experimental work in the fields of surface physics, topological physics, superconducting physics, and new energy materials.

The representative works of thermoelectric materials, new topological materials, ferromagnetic materials, three-dimensional Quantum Hall effect, transmission electron microscopy, angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (Arpes), and quantum precision measurement were also discussed.

This workshop has enhanced the mutual understanding between SUSTech and Tohoku University, promoted collaboration between faculty members, and has laid a solid foundation for the future cooperation between both parties.
