On January 22, 2022, the annual MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 in China was announced online. Junhao LIN, Associate Professor of the Department of Physics at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), was selected on the MIT Technology Review’s list of 35 Innovators Under 35 in China.

The 35 innovators are selected from five different categories: entrepreneurs, humanitarians, pioneers, visionaries, and inventors. Prof. Junhao LIN’s was awarded under the “visionaries” category.

Prof. LIN mainly uses a combination of spherical aberration correction transmission electron microscopy and first-principles calculations to solve the structure-activity relationship between the structure and physical properties of functional two-dimensional materials, and optimize the atomic structure of materials to improve device performance and develop new applications.

His research is mainly aimed at the stability of the single-layer structure of new two-dimensional materials and built a large-scale glove box interconnection system with independent intellectual property rights. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed papers as first (co-first) and correspondence author in various high impact journals such as Nature, Nature Nanotechnology, and Nature Materials, with a total of more than 8,600 citations and an H-factor of 38.

Established in 1999, MIT Technology Review identifies young innovators doing exciting work that could shape their respective fields. In 2017, recognizing the rise of Chinese technology talent, the magazine decided to launch a 35 Innovators Under 35 specifically for China. It gathers young talents who could revolutionize and shape the future of technology and industry, and gives them a platform to present their achievements to industry leaders, academic experts, and the global public.
