SUSTech’s Hongzhou LU elected as Fellow of American Academy of Microbiology

The American Academy of Microbiology (AAM) recently announced its list of Fellows of the Class of 2022. Hongzhou LU, Dean of the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) (Shenzhen Third People’s Hospital), was among those elected as a Fellow of the AAM.

The AAM is the honorific leadership group within the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), one of the largest life science societies in the world. Its mission is to recognize scientists for outstanding contributions to microbiology and provide microbiological expertise in the service of science and the public.

Over the last 50 years, over 2,600 distinguished scientists have been elected to the AAM. This year, a total of 65 scholars from all over the world were selected as fellows.

Prof. Hongzhou LU’s research mainly focuses on the diagnosis, pathogenesis, and treatment of infectious diseases. This includes the investigation of fevers, central nervous system, and respiratory infections, diagnosing and treating infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, AIDS, parasites, etc., and the application of antibiotics.
