SUSTech student wins 2022-2023 SEG Scholarship

Recently, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) announced its list of 2022-2023 scholarship recipients. Ying HU, a Ph.D. student from the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), received the SEG Foundation/Chevron Scholarship.

During her doctoral studies as a member of Assistant Professor Dikun YANG’s team at the Department of Earth and Space Sciences, Ying HU has studied the effect of steel casings on three-dimensional electromagnetic numerical simulation and imaging for the hydraulic fracturing monitoring.

She has published two papers as the first author, participated in domestic and international conferences, and won the Best Student Paper Award at the 15th International Geo-Electromagnetic Workshop.

The SEG is the most influential international professional organization in the field of applied geophysics. Scholarships awarded by the SEG Foundation aim to advance and encourage research in the fields of geophysics and related geosciences worldwide.

Last year, 330 applications from across the world were submitted to the SEG Scholarships Committee for evaluation. A total of 89 scholarships were awarded, with five granted to students from mainland China.
