On September 26, 2022, the 2022 Alibaba Global Mathematics Competition winners were announced.

Quanhui ZHU, a doctoral student from the Department of Mathematics at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), received the Honorable Mention award, becoming the first student of the University to win at the Alibaba Global Mathematics Competition finals.

The event attracted more than 50,000 participants from many countries and regions worldwide, of which 715 advanced to the finals. This year, a total of 77 finalists received awards at the competition.

The 2022 Alibaba Global Mathematics Competition finals were divided into five tracks of different subject areas: Algebra & Number Theory, Geometry & Topology, Analysis & Differential Equations, Applied & Computational Mathematics, and Combinatorics & Probability.

The major track chosen by Quanhui ZHU was Applied & Computational Mathematics, and the minor track was Combinatorics & Probability.

Quanhui ZHU noted that the competition was based on practical problems, which is different from pure problem solving, so that participants can realize the application value behind a discipline.

The Alibaba Global Mathematics Competition is jointly organized by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the Alibaba Philanthropy, and Alibaba DAMO Academy. It integrates competition, training, and communication, and is aimed at math enthusiasts all over the world.
