From June 20 to 21 in 2015, “Big Data Spark Training” hosted by SUSTC and co-hosted by Education Big Data Research Center of Hong Kong Baptist University Shenzhen Research Institute was held successfully in our university. This training activity attracted nearly 200 students from colleges and universities and enterprises across the country. Vice president of our university, Professor Tao Tang attended the opening ceremony of the training and made a speech. 

There were totally 7 persons to act as training tutors and the honored guests of the forum of this training activity, including Professor Chuanhai Liu from Purdue University, Professor Xiao Wang from Purdue University, Professor Huang Jian from the University of Lowa, Doctor Chunlin Ji from Kuang-Chi Institute of Advanced Technology, Doctor Zhihui Jin from Tecent Social Contact and Effect Advertising Department, Professor Qiao Wang from Southeast University and Professor Shiwu Zhu from Tsinghua University. Besides, Associate Professor Jingzhi Li from the department of mathematics of our university and others participated in the training organization work.

In the big data calculation training that lasted two days, Professor Chuanhai Liu and Professor Xiao Wang from Purdue University introduced the concept, scientific application and software development of big data respectively, and lectured and demonstrated currently the most popular Scala extendable programming language and Spark distributed calculation platform from basic knowledge to concrete cases. Professor Shiwu Zhu from Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management , Tecent Research and Development Director – Doctor Zhihui Jin and Shenzhen Kuang-Chi Institute vice director Doctor Chunlin Ji gave the expert reports respectively in respect of finance big data, meta-material big data and internet big data.

The forum link arranged finally in this training was hosted by Doctor Aijun Zhang from Hong Kong Baptist University, 7 experts expressed their perspectives respectively aiming at “what is Big Data?”, “What is the application of Big Data in various fields?”, and “How will the academic circles and the industrial circles carry out effective cooperation?” and other topics for discussion. 

This training received enthusiastic responses from the students who attend the training, who all expressed that they learnt a lot and expected to attend the following series of training. The undergraduate students of the department of mathematics of our university also participated in this training proactively, and communicated with the international experts of Big Data field closely and deepened the understanding of the latest research trends of related field.
