The awarding ceremony of the 16th Wuxi AppTec Life Science and Chemistry Awards was recently held online.

Jing XU, Professor of the Department of Chemistry at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), received the Wuxi AppTec Life Science and Chemistry Award for his outstanding contribution in the field of total synthesis of bioactive caged natural products.

Prof. Jing XU joined SUSTech in 2014, with his research interests including natural product total synthesis and small molecule medicinal chemistry. He has independently completed the total synthesis of more than 20 complex caged natural product molecules with important physiological activities and medicinal prospects.

He has independently published more than 30 papers in domestic and international scientific journals, including Nature Reviews Chemistry, Accounts of Chemical Research, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Nature Communications, Natural Product Reports, and Chinese Journal of Chemistry.

The Wuxi AppTec Life Science and Chemistry Awards was established in 2007 to reward young scientific and technological talents who are engaged in research in chemistry and related fields, and who have made outstanding achievements in scientific research innovation and the development of industrial applications and high-tech industrialization.

Over the past 16 years, the Wuxi AppTec Life Science and Chemistry Awards has provided attention and support to many original studies at their early stages, helping scientific researchers to make further breakthroughs, promote medical innovation, and benefit patients.

A total of 287 outstanding scientists have received the award, while 27 have been selected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).

Chair Professor Dawei MA (2007), Chair Professor Bin TAN (2020), Professor Chuang-Chuang LI (2021), and Professor Jing XU, all of the Department of Chemistry at SUSTech, have won the award.
