The 2022 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance Annual Meeting and President Forum was recently held at the University of Macau in a hybrid format.

Nearly 200 people attended the meeting, including leaders of the Ministry of Education’s Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, the Hong Kong and Macao Liaison Offices, the Education Bureaus of Guangdong Province and Hong Kong, the Education and Youth Development Bureau of Macao, as well as presidents, department leaders, and heads of related departments from 42 member institutions in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.

Hongwei FANG, Vice President and Provost of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), attended the meeting.

This year’s forum focused on two themes: the first was how to strengthen the synergy of the alliance and promote the development of high-level talents in the region; the second was how to take the advantages of cooperation in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) to implement the national strategy of Digital Transformation in education to strengthen talent development.

Hongwei FANG said that the GBA is one of China’s three major innovation hubs, a core area to participate in global scientific and technological innovation, and help build the country into a global scientific and technological power.

He said that SUSTech has made huge efforts in developing a talent highland and will set the benchmark for the world’s major scientific and academic exchange centers.

He added that the University would explore a possible solution for the mobility management of high-level talents within the alliance, so that more top academics could work in different universities and nurture more young talents.

Founded in 2016, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance is committed to promoting in-depth cooperation in education, science and technology, and talents in the GBA, and building a talent highland in the region.
