On March 18, 2023, Tony Chan, President of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), and his delegation, which included Pierre Julius Magistretti, Vice President for Research, Kevin Edward Cullen, Vice President for Innovation, and heads of related divisions, offices, and centers visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).
Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, Li JIN, Vice President, and heads of related departments held discussions with the guests.
President Qikun XUE gave a brief summary of the current development of SUSTech. He expressed his gratitude for President Chan’s invaluable insights into the development of SUSTech as a member of the International Advisory Council.
President XUE expects the two institutions to enhance collaboration in scientific research, talent cultivation, and social services, and strive to build research universities with a global impact.
KAUST President Tony Chan acknowledged the stunning achievements made by SUSTech in recent years. He noted that both SUSTech and KAUST are young research universities with global visions.
He added that the two sides would strengthen exchanges and collaboration in areas of talent introduction, faculty and student exchange, innovation and entrepreneurship, Industry-University-Research integration, ecology and environmental science, and so on, to promote the global advancement of science and technology.
During their visit, Tony Chan and his delegation were given a guided tour of the campus, visiting the Residential Colleges, Yidan Library, and some labs and centers.
