University of Queensland President visits SUSTech

On March 28, 2023, Prof. Deborah Terry AO, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Queensland (UQ), and her delegation, which included Mr. Rongyu Li, Vice President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement), Prof. Alan Rowan, Director of the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, Prof. Pankaj Sah, Director of the Queensland Brain Institute, and Ms. Jessica Sun, Manager, Strategy and Partnerships of UQ, visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).

Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, Li JIN, Vice President for Global Strategies, Xueming YANG, Vice President for Research, and heads of related departments held discussions with the guests.

President Qikun XUE welcomed the guests and introduced the latest research accomplishments of SUSTech. He anticipates that both institutions will strengthen collaboration in scientific research and talent development, offering more opportunities for researchers from both sides.

UQ President Deborah Terry presented an overview of the University of Queensland’s current state. She highlighted the significant number of Chinese students studying at UQ, which enhances the potential for future collaboration with SUSTech.

She praised SUSTech for its impressive accomplishments in recent years, specifically highlighting the notable advancements made in research and campus development.

She acknowledged SUSTech as UQ’s premier global partner and suggested that both universities intensify exchanges and collaborations across a broad range of areas while exploring additional opportunities to build upon existing cooperative programs.

Vice President Li JIN gave a brief summary of the current development of SUSTech. He provided an overview of SUSTech’s present standing in the areas of education, research, and international collaboration.

During the conversation, the participants talked about the current status of cooperation and investigated potential prospects for expanding collaboration in possible areas.

Deborah Terry and her delegation were given a guided tour of the campus, visiting the Residential Colleges, Yidan Library, and some labs and centers.
