From May 21 to May 26, the Society for Information Display (SID) held its SID Display Week 2023 in Los Angeles, USA.
On May 22, the SID Display Week held its 2023 Honors and Awards Ceremony to present prizes to recipients who have made outstanding innovations and significant contributions in the display industry.
Xiaowei SUN, Chair Professor of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), was awarded the Slottow-Owaki Prize in recognition of his continuous dedication to educating and training students and professionals in the flat panel display industry in China and Southeast Asia. Professor Xiaowei SUN is the first person in the Chinese mainland to receive this award.
Xiaowei SUN is a Chair Professor of SUSTech, Execute Director of the Institute of Nanoscience and Applications (INA), founding Head of the Department of EEE, and an honorary doctorate of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radio-electronics (BSUIR). He has long been engaged in the research of flat panel displays.
He is an Academician of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Materials, and a Fellow of several academic societies, including the Optical Society of America (OSA), International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE), and the Institute of Physics (IoP, UK). He is the first scholar from the Chinese mainland to become a Fellow of the SID.
While teaching at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) and SUSTech, Prof. SUN has trained a lot of high-end technical talents in the field of flat panel display (more than 50 PhDs).
The Slottow-Owaki Prize is awarded for outstanding contributions to the education and training of students and professionals in the field of information display. The award is made by the Board of Directors acting on the recommendation of the Honors and Awards Committee and funded by a generous donation from Dr. Tsutae Shinoda and Fujitsu, Ltd.
