The Guangdong Division of the 2023 Kunpeng Application Innovation Competition and the Guangdong Information Technology Application Innovation Industry Alliance Competition were recently held at the Shenzhen Bay Science and Technology Ecological Park.
The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Supercomputing Team, Boltzmann, won the First Prize in the Guangdong Division in the Kunpeng Native Application Innovation Track.
The team was comprised of Jianpeng XU, a master’s student from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Haijun LIU, a doctoral student from the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering (MEE), Xiusong CHEN, a doctoral student from the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), and Yiming QI, a visiting doctoral student.
Jiahua ZHAO, a visiting Ph.D. student from the Center for Computational Science and Engineering (CCSE) at SUSTech, won the Gold Medal Mentor Award.
During the competition, the SUSTech Supercomputing Team completed the code migration of the self-developed GK-TCF program from the x86_64 architecture platform to the aarch64 architecture platform through Huawei’s self-developed software stack, Kunpeng DevKit. The GK-TCF program simulated a turbulent channel flow using a gas kinetic scheme.
They used the Kunpeng DevKit to analyze the performance of GK-TCF, obtained hot functions and microarchitecture features, and combined the application running characteristics to optimize the code of GK-TCF by using the Bisheng compiler, KML math library, and Hyper MPI.
As a result, they significantly improved the parallel performance of the program and won the First Prize of the Guangdong Division of the track.
The tutors of the Boltzmann Supercomputing Team were Lian-Ping WANG, Chair Professor of the Department of MAE, Zhuozhao LI, Assistant Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Jing FAN, Chief Engineer of the CCSE, while their instructor was Jiahua ZHAO from the CCSE.
The 2023 Kunpeng Application Innovation Competition is a high-level competition for basic software/hardware developers. It aims to encourage developers to jointly create basic software/hardware solutions based on Kunpeng’s full-stack root technology and around real industry problems.
This year’s competition was hosted by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and jointly organized by the Kunpeng Ecosystem Innovation Center, China Software Industry Association (CSIA), Green Computing Industry Alliance, and the China Computer Industry Association.
