Scholars and faculty members from the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) have recently published a series of textbooks.

The textbook “A Practical Guide to Image Processing and Computer Vision – With OpenCV and Python” was compiled by Shiqi YU, Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SUSTech, and has been published by the People’s Posts and Telecommunications Press.

The textbook “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” was compiled by the Intelligent Medical Imaging (iMED) team at SUSTech and published by the Chemical Industry Press.

“A Practical Guide to Image Processing and Computer Vision – With OpenCV and Python” is a practical textbook that introduces the basic knowledge of digital image processing and computer vision theory through a large number of examples and complete application cases. It trains learners in practical development through code examples and further deepens their understanding of knowledge points.

All cases are implemented in the Python programming language and are based on the open-source OpenCV library, keeping up with cutting-edge technology.

The application cases are mainly based on the latest scientific research and development results in recent years, and are close to the practical application scenarios, such as face recognition, object tracking, text recognition, QR-code recognition, and the application of robot vision systems.

By analyzing the cases in this book, readers can improve their understanding of theoretical knowledge points, improve their engineering application capabilities, and promote the integration of theory and practice.

The content structure of the “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” textbook is divided into introduction, theory, and application, especially focusing on the balance between theories of AI and practical applications. It lets students learn and understand obscure formulas easily through specific AI applications, aiming to provide a solid foundation for them.

This textbook is suitable for an introduction to artificial intelligence courses in various majors in universities of science and engineering, and is also applicable to an introduction to medical artificial intelligence courses for medicine-related majors. The general aim of it is to enable non-computer major students to master the algorithms and theories of artificial intelligence, which is beneficial to cultivating interdisciplinary talents in different fields.
