The 2023 IEEE EMBS Shenzhen Chapter Academic Annual Meeting and Graduate Forum on Intelligent Medical Image Computing was held at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).

The event was sponsored by the Shenzhen Chapter of the IEEE EMBS and the Academic Degrees Committee of Guangdong Province, hosted by the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) at SUSTech, and co-organized by Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen (HITSZ) and the National Innovation Center for High Performance Medical Devices (NMED).

More than 250 guests attended the conference, including Dongfeng GU, Acting Vice President of SUSTech, heads of related departments, and students from various universities in Shenzhen.

Several experts and scholars were also invited to present keynote reports at the event, which included Shutao LI, Vice President of Hunan University, Daxiang CUI, Vice President of Henan University, Hongen LIAO, Professor of Tsinghua University, Qi YANG, Vice President of the Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University, Hongkai XIONG, Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Junwei HAN, Professor of Northwestern Polytechnical University, Jian YANG, Professor of Beijing Institute of Technology, Zaiyi LIU Chief Physician of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, Daoqiang ZHANG, Professor of the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Xiaoying TANG, Professor of the Beijing Institute of Technology, Hongkai WANG, Professor of the Dalian University of Technology, Hairong ZHENG, Professor of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Ting MA, Professor of HITSZ.

In his remarks, Dongfeng GU hoped that through in-depth academic exchanges, medical images could be better integrated into clinical practice, allowing more experts and medical workers to jointly contribute to human health.

Prof. Hairong ZHENG delivered a speech as the chairman of the conference. He hoped that this event would attract more scholars to pay attention to the IEEE EMBS Shenzhen Chapter and provide support, thereby promoting the development of cross-disciplinary cooperation between the medical and engineering industries in Shenzhen.

In the report session, the conference’s keynote speakers discussed several matters concerning challenges, solutions, and the latest advances in the medical industry.

They discussed various topics, including the current challenges of multi-mode image perception, intelligent nano-imaging diagnosis and treatment technology, solutions of intelligent image analysis in different medical scenarios, the application of imaging methods such as vascular ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of vascular-related diseases, latest technologies in medical image generation, the basic principles and methods of brain connectome analysis of brain neural network connections, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the accurate diagnosis of tumors, intelligent imaging genomics, among other areas.

This conference focused on the frontiers of intelligent medical imaging computing, aiming to provide a platform for scholars and students to discuss and exchange academic ideas, and promote the integration and development of medicine and engineering.
