China observed its 46th National Tree Planting Day on March 12. The Day is a globally recognized occasion dedicated to celebrating the importance of trees and promoting environmental conservation.
People often adopt trees, donate money, participate in educational initiatives, and volunteer in their communities. It underscores the significance of trees in mitigating climate change, preserving biodiversity, enhancing air quality, and providing essential resources for humans and wildlife alike.
In observance of this day, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) organized a Tree Planting Day-themed event, where Hong JIANG, University Council Chairperson, Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, alongside other members of the University’s leadership team, faculty members, and students participated in tree planting on campus, among other activities.
Chairperson Hong JIANG emphasized the great significance of National Tree Planting Day, noting that tree planting infuses vitality into the campus, symbolizing the collective growth of faculty, students, and the University.
She drew a parallel between planting trees and cultivating talent, encouraging students to take the initiative and work together to improve the University, and she also made a clear connection between their personal growth and the nation’s advancement.
President Qikun XUE praised the picturesque and verdant campus landscape, with greenery comprising as much as 70% of the University’s grounds, including more than 300 species of flowering plants, which enriches the ambiance. He urged everyone to actively contribute in making the campus an even more beautiful and livable academic haven.
Every year, on National Tree Planting Day, SUSTech organizes a range of themed activities aimed at promoting eco-environmental conservation and green development.
