The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) recently hosted the Medicine-Engineering Interdisciplinary Conference on Disease Diagnosis and Intervention from March 24 to 25.

This event, guided by the Department of Interdisciplinary Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), was organized by SUSTech and co-organized by the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society’s Shenzhen Branch to facilitate discussions at the intersection of medicine and engineering.

The conference highlighted cutting-edge advancements in medical and engineering integration, focusing on medical imaging, surgical robotics, and biological imaging.

Li JIN, Vice President of SUSTech, was present and shared his vision for the University’s role in advancing these interdisciplinary fields.

Qinghu MENG, Head of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) at SUSTech, chaired the conference. He emphasized the critical importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and thanked the experts for their insights.

Qing PAN, Deputy Director of the Department of Interdisciplinary Sciences at NSFC, also highlighted the value of fostering academic exchanges and partnerships in this evolving field.

Xiaoying TANG, Associate Professor of the Department of EEE, served as the executive chair and coordinated the conference.

The event featured six keynote speakers, including Lining SUN, Zengguang HOU, Yebin LIU, Xunbin WEI, Meng YANG, and Jiamin WU, who discussed various topics from medical robotics to artificial intelligence applications in healthcare.

Additionally, a round-table discussion involving five experts explored emerging trends in medical and engineering integration, with a particular focus on advancements in medical imaging and surgical robotics.

This conference not only served as a significant academic platform for sharing knowledge and fostering innovation but also strengthened the bonds among SUSTech, its partner institutions, and the broader academic community. It inspired attendees, enhanced dialogue, and promoted collaborative scientific research efforts in the medicine-engineering interdisciplinary field.
