SUSTech welcomes Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to China

On April 14, H.E. Mr. John Busuttil, Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the People’s Republic of China, visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, and other representatives held discussions with the guests.  

President Qikun XUE extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Busuttil and introduced the current state and future vision of SUSTech.

He emphasized the long-standing and amicable relationship between China and Malta, spanning over half a century, and acknowledged the remarkable achievements made under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

President XUE expressed SUSTech’s desire to strengthen exchanges with Malta and promote collaboration in various fields, including high-tech, financial services, marine services, and sustainable development.

Highlighting SUSTech’s unwavering commitment to nurturing outstanding and innovative talents since its establishment, President XUE expressed his hope for more frequent and comprehensive interactions between faculty and students between the two sides. He envisioned these exchanges fostering mutual learning, cultural appreciation, and contributing to the further flourishing of the China-Malta friendship.

Ambassador H.E. Mr. John Busuttil highly appreciated the high-quality development of SUSTech in a short period of time as a young university. He gave an overview of Malta and the cooperation between Maltese and Chinese institutions.

He mentioned that he was delighted to see the exchanges between the two sides in the field of academics during this visit. The Embassy of Malta in China has always regarded education as its top priority and attached importance to the core value of human resources.

The Embassy of Malta in China will continue to provide various support for the exchanges and cooperation between SUSTech and Malta in the future, and promote in-depth cooperation and exchanges between China and Malta in the field of higher education.

Mingwei CHEN, Dean of the College of Engineering, Ke TANG, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Jialin LIU, Assistant Professor of the Department of CSE, and Hao CHEN, Executive Deputy Director of SUSTech Global, joined the discussions.
