SUSTech hosts 3rd Dialogue on Young Alumni Development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Universities

On May 17, the 3rd Dialogue on Young Alumni Development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Universities, organized by the SUSTech Alumni Association (SUSTechAA) in collaboration with the Shenzhen Youth Federation, was held at the University’s Convention Center.

A total of 24 alumni associations from universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao participated, providing a platform to discuss policies and focus on new trends in science and technology. The dialogue aimed to foster innovative development and enhance exchanges and integration among universities in the GBA.   

Notable guests included representatives from the Shenzhen Youth Federation, the Exchange and Cooperation Office of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Innovation Think Tank and College of Semiconductors at SUSTech.

This event was presided over by Jun GENG, Secretary-General of the Alumni Association and Director of the Office of Communications and Development at SUSTech.

In his remarks, SUSTech’s Vice-Chairperson Ling ZHANG highlighted SUSTech’s unique advantages as a new-type research university, including talent recruitment, discipline structure, and the integration of science and education. He emphasized SUSTech’s active role in the innovation ecosystem to support the development of strategic emerging and future industries.

Vice-Chairperson ZHANG expressed hope that this dialogue would serve as a catalyst for alumni from first-class universities to explore new models of mutual promotion and inclusive development, aiding youth in the GBA in contributing to the region’s new quality productivity.

Zhixiong YUAN, Chairman of the Shenzhen Youth Federation, underscored the importance of young people in achieving high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and fostering new productive forces through innovation and creativity. He reaffirmed the Shenzhen Youth Federation’s commitment to supporting young people by providing more opportunities for communication and collaboration in the GBA.

Matthew CHONG, Chairman of the GBA Innovation Think Tank, highlighted the vast development potential of the GBA, emphasizing the need to leverage Hong Kong and Macao’s international advantages to promote institutional innovation, regulatory alignment, and policy coordination. He advocated for benchmarking against global standards to attract high-end international talent and encouraged deeper industry-university-research cooperation to fuel the development of new productivity.

The event featured keynote speakers such as Weijia TAN, Deputy Secretary General of the Shenzhen Robotics Association; Xing QIU, Founder of Shenzhen UVChip High-tech Group; Yi DIAO, Co-Founder and COO of Easy-Logic Technology Ltd.; and Fei YUAN, Co-Founder and CTO of Shenzhen SHOWMAC Network Technology Co., Ltd.

They shared their entrepreneurial experiences, industry insights, and analyses of development trends, highlighting the new opportunities, unprecedented challenges, and responsibilities faced by young entrepreneurs in the GBA in the era of artificial intelligence.

During the roundtable discussion chaired by Xin CHENG, invited guests, including Matthew CHONG, along with Shengming ZHOU, President of Shenzhen Semiconductor Industry Association; Xiangning LIU, Deputy General Manager of Shenzhen Angel Investment Guidance Fund Management Co., Ltd.; Chao YUAN, Secretary-General of Hengqin Institute of Innovation and Development (HQIID) of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone; and Xiyuan FENG, Associate Professor at Northwestern Polytechnical University, discussed the development and cultivation of new productive forces. They shared their insights on the integration of science and education, scientific research, and technological innovation.

This event established a platform for exchanges and cooperation in scientific and technological innovation and industry development among young alumni from universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and further strengthened the connection between them and alumni organizations in the GBA.
