SUSTech’s Second Environmental Science and Technology Festival highlights advances in research and sustainability

On May 30, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) held its Second Environmental Science and Technology Festival at Banyan Square to celebrate World Environment Day, drawing the attendance of nearly 3,000 faculty members and students.

This year’s festival featured a wide range of activities, offering participants an in-depth look at the University’s cutting-edge research in areas such as water resources management, global environmental change, environmental health, and environmental big data.

The event aimed to enhance scientific research awareness and academic knowledge in environmental protection while fostering a green, low-carbon campus culture.

Notable enterprises and institutions, including the Shenzhen Ecological and Environmental Monitoring Center of Guangdong Province, Shenzhen Association for Environmental Monitoring, SUSTech Environmental, Inc., Guangdong Yingfeng Technology Co., Ltd., Howay Technology Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Zhishu Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., and DeCarbon Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd, participated in the festival.

They showcased advanced technologies and applications in the environmental protection industry and discussed the demand for environmental protection talents and the professional knowledge and soft skills they should possess to promote integration between industry and education.

The festival was organized by the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at SUSTech. Since its establishment nine years ago, the school has been dedicated to achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, developing a discipline system that adapts to future challenges, and cultivating interdisciplinary and innovative environmental talents.

The school has contributed to the creation of a dynamic academic ecosystem and the cross-integration of innovative disciplines, producing internationally influential research, knowledge, technologies, and methods, and addressing regional and global environmental challenges.
