On May 25, the annual Mental Health Month kicked off at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), aiming to raise awareness of mental health, the availability of mental health supports and services, and promote a positive outlook on life among students.

The opening ceremony featured mindfulness walking exercises, where over 60 students relaxed and rejuvenated themselves under the guidance of professionals from the University’s Counseling & Psychological Services and a volunteer service team from the Shenzhen Red Cross Society.

Additionally, a heart-to-heart hug event in the student dormitory area attracted multiple participants.

SUSTech’s various residential colleges and academies participated in the festival, organizing various activities centered on mental well-being.

The College of Engineering hosted a mental-health themed movie viewing activity, the College of Science conducted an OH card group exploration, and the College of Business arranged some water sports activities.

Each residential college organized stress relief workshops, art therapy sessions, and sports competitions, enriching students’ extracurricular lives and fostering stronger interactions between faculty members and students.

The SUSTech Mental Health Club collaborated with other student organizations to launch the “Make Friends with Your Heart” initiative, which encouraged mutual understanding and support among students.

Throughout the month, a series of mental health lectures and counseling groups also took place.

The festival garnered enthusiastic participation from both faculty members and students, and received strong support from the broader community and media outlets.

Qi LU, Director of the Office of Student Affairs at SUSTech, highlighted that the University has conducted more than 100 mental health lectures, courses, and activities, providing individual and group counseling to thousands of students.

SUSTech will continue to provide guidance to students to prioritize their mental well-being and foster a harmonious and supportive environment on campus.
