SUSTech President Qikun Xue participates in 2024 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance Annual Meeting and Presidents’ Forum

On July 16, the 2024 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance Annual Meeting and Presidents’ Forum took place at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou.

Qikun Xue, President of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), attended the meeting alongside university leaders and government officials from various offices and departments within Guangdong Province, Hong Kong SAR, and Macao SAR, China.

The forum gathered renowned university presidents from China’s mainland, Hong Kong SAR, and Macao SAR to discuss three major topics, including building a global cooperation network for mutual benefit and win-win results, promoting the integration of educational, scientific, and technological talents, and deepening Sino-foreign education, science, technology, and cultural exchanges.

President Qikun Xue shared SUSTech’s experience in attracting top international scientists to create a talent cluster effect. He highlighted the University’s achievements in establishing major international scientific platforms and facilities addressing major scientific challenges. Additionally, he discussed the positive impact of the Global Teenagers Study In China Program on promoting education, science and technology, talent cultivation, and cultural exchanges, as well as the latest progress in the construction of the SUSTech-King’s College London School of Medicine.

During the meeting, President Xue also accepted a certificate on behalf of SUSTech, recognizing it as one of the founding institutions of the alliance.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance was jointly initiated and established by Sun Yat-sen University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the University of Macau in 2016. The alliance aims to bring together high-quality teaching and research resources of elite universities, deepen educational exchanges and cooperation between universities, and help develop the Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Currently, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance comprises of 43 member institutions.
