On September 4, the Institute of Risk Analysis, Prediction, and Management (Risks-X) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Tax Science and Research Institute of Shenzhen Tax Service, State Taxation Administration. The signing ceremony took place at SUSTech.
Representing SUSTech at the ceremony included Ling ZHANG, University Council Vice-Chairperson; Xiaofei CHEN, Head of the Department of Earth and Space Sciences and Dean of Risks-X; and Shuxun WANG, Head of the Department of Finance.
Attendees from the Shenzhen Tax Service, State Taxation Administration included Qing YANG, Chief Accountant; Xiaoming WANG, Director of the Yantian District Office; and Mingqiang WANG, Deputy Director of the Tax Science and Research Institute of Shenzhen Tax Service, State Taxation Administration.
Vice-Chairperson Ling ZHANG highlighted that SUSTech, as a new type of research university in Shenzhen, has integrated theoretical research with practical problem-solving. He emphasized the University’s commitment to exploring diverse collaboration models with local governments and enterprises, fostering a distinctive ecosystem of government-university-industry research partnerships.
Looking forward, Vice-Chairperson ZHANG expressed hope for expanding cooperation with the Shenzhen Tax Service, State Taxation Administration in areas such as smart taxation, social services, and talent development.
Qing YANG noted the transformative impact of big data on science, technology, and taxation. He stated that the Shenzhen Tax Service, State Taxation Administration has been dedicated to pioneering intelligent taxation solutions. The collaboration with SUSTech aims to leverage the University’s research strengths with real-world tax data scenarios to enhance tax efficiency in the big data era.
During the ceremony, Xiaopeng WANG, Senior Engineer at the Information Center of Shenzhen Tax Service, State Taxation Administration and Ke WU, Associate Professor of Risks-X, presented the progress and future work plan of the collaboration between both parties. They focused on topics such as risk monitoring and early warning of illegal fundraising activities.
Building on SUSTech’s strong foundation in mathematics, finance, earth sciences, and other disciplines, Risks-X has pursued interdisciplinary research and applications in collaboration with government bodies and industry partners, achieving significant results in risk management.
This partnership aims to capitalize on the strengths of both institutions in data, technology, talent, and industry-academia collaboration. The goal is to jointly establish a laboratory for smart taxation, conduct tax risk analysis and prevention, develop collaborative models for government departments, enhance financial risk monitoring and early warning systems, and support the high-quality development of industries. This collaboration will provide scientific, technological, and talent-driven support for leveraging big data in taxation to advance Shenzhen’s modern industrial ecosystem.
