On December 6, the 2024 Tengchong Scientists Forum, co-hosted by the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), commenced in Tengchong, Yunnan Province.

A delegation from the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) attended the opening ceremony, during which SUSTech signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government.

The forum was attended by prominent government officials, including Ning WANG, Party Secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Committee; Yubo WANG, Party Deputy Secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Committee and Governor of Yunnan Province; and Zhengying WANG, Vice Governor of Yunnan Province.

Representatives from SUSTech included President Qikun XUE and Vice President and Provost Hongwei FANG.

During the opening ceremony, President Qikun XUE and Vice Governor Zhengying WANG signed the sign strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of SUSTech and the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government.

The agreement outlines a plan for collaboration between both parties in areas such as the construction of the Yunnan Advanced Research Institute, strategic consulting, scientific research, transformation of achievements, and talent development.

Building a regional education, talent, and innovation highland, and advancing the construction of a world-class university are the shared goals of the two parties. They also intend to investigate new mechanisms for cooperation between universities and local industry.

The Tengchong Scientists Forum is dedicated to inheriting the spirit of the Southwest United University, promoting the spirit of science and scientists, and establishing advanced platforms for academic exchange, interaction between government, industry, academia, and research, technology transfer, and scientific cooperation between China and South and Southeast Asian countries.
