On March 20, 2025, the Center for Language Education (CLE) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) proudly hosted the 4^th Global Language Day, a dynamic celebration of linguistic diversity and cross-cultural unity. This year’s theme, “Unity in Diversity”, encapsulated the event’s spirit of inclusivity and connection, bringing together students, faculty members, and staff to highlight the wealth of languages spoken within the SUSTech community.

As SUSTech continues to strengthen its international presence, Global Language Day provides a valuable opportunity to showcase the University’s dedication to fostering intercultural understanding and global collaboration. The 2025 edition of the event featured an impressive representation of 24 languages, with over 90 language ambassadors from various backgrounds volunteering to share their linguistic and cultural heritage.

With the warm spring weather setting the perfect backdrop, the event drew an enthusiastic crowd of over a thousand participants eager to explore new languages and immerse themselves in diverse cultures. A key attraction this year was a challenge to learn five key phrases—“Hello”, “How are you?”, “Nice to meet you”, “Thank you”, and “Goodbye”—in at least 20 languages. Whilst learning the phrases, students carried a “language passport” and received unique stamps from each language upon completion. Those who successfully completed this multilingual feat were rewarded with exclusive prizes, injecting an element of excitement and friendly competition into the festivities.

Now firmly established as a cornerstone of SUSTech’s cultural calendar, Global Language Day continues to inspire curiosity, appreciation, and engagement with different linguistic traditions. By celebrating the diversity of voices within the University, the event contributes to a more connected, inclusive, and vibrant academic environment at SUSTech.
