On May 23, a delegation from Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University (GPNU), led by Party Secretary Bing WANG and President Qingyun DAI, visited the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).

Hong JIANG, University Council Chairperson of SUSTech, along with representatives from related departments, held discussions with the guests.

Chairperson Hong JIANG provided an overview of SUSTech’s recent progress in areas such as talent development, academic structure, and scientific research. She highlighted that as a new type of research university rooted in Shenzhen, SUSTech has drawn on the disciplinary structure and educational model of top international science and engineering institutions.

With a core focus on science, engineering, and medicine, complemented by programs in business, humanities, and social sciences, the University is dedicated to serving the nation’s strategic needs. Chairperson JIANG expressed hope for deeper cooperation between both sides to jointly support national strategic goals and provide intellectual support.

Bing WANG acknowledged SUSTech’s rapid development, noting that its experience in building a new type of research university offers valuable insights. With 2025 marking the discipline development year of GPNU, he expressed a strong desire to further enhance cooperation between the two universities, work together to achieve breakthroughs in key core technologies, and contribute to advancing Chinese modernization.

The two sides also held in-depth discussions on topics including the formulation of the “15^th Five-Year Plan”, academic discipline development, doctoral program applications, and faculty recruitment.

Following the meeting, Bing WANG, Qingyun DAI, and their delegation toured SUSTech’s exhibition of development and achievements, Shuli College, and the Control & Learning for Robotics and Autonomy (CLEAR) Laboratory.

Other members of the visiting delegation included Wenxin DENG, Vice President of GPNU, and Zhujun XU, Director of the Office of Human Resources. Participants from SUSTech included Li LIU, Director of the Office of Party Affairs and Administration, and Zhiyun LIN, Dean of the School of Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing.
