The Chinese Society of Toxicology (CST) recently announced the recipients of the 2025 Excellent Young Scientist Award, with Associate Professor Wenhui QIU from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) among the ten scholars honored.

Established to support and recognize emerging talent in toxicology, the Excellent Young Scientist Award encourages young scientists to pursue rigorous, innovative research and accelerate their professional development.

Founded in 1993, the CST is a leading national academic organization under the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). With the mission of exploring mechanisms of harm and safeguarding human health, CST promotes the concept of “integrated toxicology” and brings together over 24,000 individual members and 251 institutional members. It oversees 31 specialized committees spanning fields such as medicine, food, industry, and ecology, making it one of the most comprehensive toxicology networks in China.

Professor Wenhui QIU is a recipient of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Excellent Young Scientist Fund and serves as Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Soil and Groundwater Pollution Control. She has published more than 90 SCI-indexed papers, including more than 60 as the first or corresponding author, and holds 17 authorized patents, including five invention patents.

Her work has earned multiple accolades, including the First Prize of the Guangdong Provincial Environmental Protection Science and Technology Award, the Gold Award of Ecological Environment Youth Science and Technology from the Guangdong Environmental Science Society, and the Second Prize of the Environmental Protection Science and Technology Award.

Professor QIU serves as a member of the Immunotoxicology Committee of CST, sits on editorial boards for several leading environmental journals, and peer reviewer for leading SCI journals such as the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS), Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP), and Environmental Science & Technology (EST). In addition, she has frequently served as a session convener at the National Ecotoxicology Conference.
