At the recent CMG Sci-Tech Innovation Gala, jointly produced by China Media Group (CMG) and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Unitree Robotics’ humanoid robot delivered a spectacular street dance performance.
The dance algorithms were independently developed by the team led by He KONG, Vice Dean of the SUSTech Institute of Robotics (SIR) and Associate Professor of the School of Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing (AiM).

SUSTech’s self-developed motion control algorithms seamlessly integrated with the humanoid robot, enabling it to perform precise movements such as hand waves, body rolls, and quick steps in perfect sync with the rhythm of the music. The robot also executed complex street dance moves, including slides and Thomas flares, with fluid, coordinated motion and impeccable timing.
The performance blended strength and elegance with technology and art, earning applause from the audience and emerging as one of the gala’s most visually striking and technologically impressive highlights.
He KONG noted that performing on the CMG Sci-Tech Innovation Gala stage was a major recognition of the team’s work. Team members, including master’s student Zongbiao WENG and undergraduates Haoyu WANG and Shengzhang XU, participated fully in the recording in Shanghai.
By presenting the lab’s innovations on a national platform, the team allowed the results of their research to be showcased and appreciated by audiences across the country. The experience not only demonstrated their achievements but also provided invaluable practical experience and inspired the students’ creativity.
