November 28, 2025, saw the signing ceremony for the strategic cooperation between Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and New Hope Group to jointly establish the SUSTech Lansheng Brain Hospital (preparatory) at our university. Yonghao LIU, chairman of New Hope Group, and Qikun XUE, president of SUSTech and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the event. The ceremony was hosted by Li JIN, vice president of SUSTech.

Qikun XUE extended a sincere welcome to Yonghao LIU and his delegation and highly praised New Hope Group for its outstanding contributions as a private enterprise in serving the country through industry and actively fulfilling social responsibilities. He stated that as an outstanding private enterprise in China, New Hope Group has not only achieved significant development milestones but has also consistently upheld a patriotic and responsible corporate spirit, demonstrating profound strategic vision and a sense of responsibility for the times. As the country advances into the new “15th Five-Year Plan” development stage, emphasizing the role of scientific and technological innovation in leading the construction of a modern industrial system and promoting high-level technological self-reliance, the joint effort to build a brain hospital represents both an important exploration of deep integration between higher education and industry and a key step in the development of SUSTech’s School of Medicine. SUSTech possesses world-class research teams and an innovative ecosystem, with internationally leading research in fields such as neuroscience. It is hoped that this signing will be a new starting point for close cooperation, solid progress, and substantial achievements in joint research, talent cultivation, and the application of research outcomes. Contributing wisdom and strength to China’s pursuit of high-level technological self-reliance and health sector development through partnership.

Yonghao LIU highly praised the rapid and high-quality development of SUSTech. He stated that the country is currently deeply studying and implementing the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, focusing on promoting high-quality development. This cooperation is a response to the call for leading the modernization of the industrial system through technological innovation, concentrating on frontier areas such as brain science, and promoting deep integration of the innovation chain and industrial chain. Yonghao LIU outlined three expectations regarding future cooperation. First, to jointly build translational pathways, using neuroscience as a breakthrough point and leveraging SUSTech’s research advantages and Bluestone Brain Hospital’s clinical resources to achieve breakthroughs in brain-computer interfaces, neural stem cell therapy, and related areas. Second, to jointly cultivate innovative talent through co-established laboratories, internship bases, and other means, training interdisciplinary professionals with both research and industrial expertise to support high-quality development. Third, to jointly create integration models and carry out deep cooperation in more fields. New Hope Group’s industry practices provide practical scenarios for translating research results, while SUSTech’s cutting-edge research injects innovation into New Hope Group’s transformation and upgrading. Both parties are expected to uphold the innovative concept of university-industry collaboration and jointly create a new model integrating academia, industry, and research.

At the signing ceremony, Yonghao LIU and Qikun XUE signed a strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties. Subsequently, witnessed by Qikun XUE and Yonghao LIU, Songling WANG, dean of the Medical School of SUSTech, along with Liqiang ZHUO, chairman of Shanghai Lansheng Brain Hospital Investment Co., Ltd., and Zihao CHENG, president of Shenzhen Lansheng Brain Hospital, signed a tripartite cooperation agreement as representatives for the joint establishment of the SUSTech Lansheng Brain Hospital (preparatory).
