SUSTech assists in building the “Scholarly Corridor” at Tuocheng Town Central Primary School

In March 2025, the SUSTech Office of Regional Assistance and Rural Revitalization actively responded to the school’s rural revitalization initiatives by launching the public welfare book donation campaign “Books Bring Hope, Love Warms the Mountains.” The campaign aims to use books as a link to convey knowledge and optimism to Tuocheng Town in Longchuan, Heyuan, where the university offers targeted support, in line with its initiative to provide educational support to rural communities.

The “Scholarly Corridor,” aided by our university, was completed and put into use at Tuocheng Town Central Primary School in Longchuan County, Heyuan City. At present, this corridor has become a shared reading base for several surrounding schools, directly benefiting nearly 3,000 local primary and secondary school students.

In the end, nearly 1,500 carefully selected books were gathered, covering a wide range of fields including science, literature, picture books, and learning materials. In July, the packages filled with books and care officially set off, destined for the rural revitalization partner school. With brand-new bookshelves and bright spaces, a warm and tranquil reading haven was created for the children.

Today, stepping into Tuocheng Town Central Primary School, under the “Scholarly Corridor” built with the support of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), one can often see children deeply immersed in reading. Here, they explore the stars and the seas, converse with historical figures, and ignite their imagination. Books have opened window after window to the outside world for them.

These books are not only vessels of knowledge but also nourishment for the soul. They shorten the distance of education, allowing rural children to explore the sea of knowledge, accompanying childhood with the rich fragrance of books. These books also plant the seed of dreams in a child’s heart, conveying the belief that “knowledge can change destiny.”

The establishment and operation of the “Scholarly Corridor” is a heartwarming reflection of SUSTech’s role in educational assistance. In the future, the university will continue to leverage its strengths in education, technology, and talent; expand the coverage of quality resources, innovate forms of assistance, and earnestly promote rural revitalization, allowing knowledge to illuminate the youth in mountainous areas.
