This year marks the 15th anniversary of the founding of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). On December 19, our school held the “Most Beautiful Campus – Tribute to Blooming Flowers” Flower Viewing and Garden Tour at the Huadao Path and the Big Banyan Tree Square next to Yidan Library. Hong JIANG, University Council Chairperson, and Ling ZHANG, University Council Vice-Chairperson, enjoyed the sea of flowers with faculty, students, and alumni, sending birthday wishes to the university.

This event mainly features the pink trumpet tree trees blooming on campus, carefully paired with Shenzhen’s city flower, the bougainvillea, along with a variety of other blooming flowers, creating an extensive sea of flowers. The staff designed a continuous flower viewing route along the main roads and transformed the lawn area into a “campus campsite,” forming a layout that combines both active and passive areas. The event site has more than 20 themed interactive and food stalls, incorporating plant science displays, quiz sessions, as well as flash performances by student clubs, tightly integrating rich ecological landscapes with cultural experiences, providing participants with an immersive viewing and touring experience. This flower exhibition will continue until January 10, 2026.

Among the more than 6,000 potted flowers displayed on site, 70% were the result of the school’s own cultivation. Among them, the displayed Bougainvillea includes some fine specimens cultivated at the school for over ten years, vividly reflecting the ongoing efforts in the school’s ecological construction. In recent years, the school has continuously introduced new and superior plant varieties, greatly enriching campus biodiversity and helping the campus top the ShanghaiRanking’s University Student Satisfaction Rankings for several consecutive years, highlighting the profound impact of ecological education.

To Qiutong ZHANG of the Zhixin College, it is expressed that this sea of flowers during the final exam season feels like a warm gift in winter, deeply reflecting the school’s humanistic care. To Yiran XU and Zhuoya HOU of Zhiren College, it is expressed that the fiery petals of the Rhododendron simsii reflect the ceaseless innovative passion of the people at SUSTech, inspiring everyone to move forward fearlessly.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the founding of SUSTech, and there has been a string of good news recently. Professors Haiping XIA, Weiping LIU, and Jun LI were newly elected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; major national projects have been approved with continuous breakthroughs; original scientific research has made new progress; and students’ competitions and innovation projects have repeatedly won awards… To share the joy with all faculty and students, the university has organized a variety of activities. In addition to the Flower Viewing and Garden Tour, there are events such as the first exhibition of the sculpture “Pioneers,” the New Year’s Gala and the 11th “Southern Voice,” and the “Mingde Rixin” New Year Music Concert. Furthermore, on December 19, during lunch and dinner, the university will distribute free chicken drumsticks and navel oranges in all dining halls to provide extra snacks for all faculty, students, and staff.
