President Qikun XUE inspects the “Shenzhen Ocean University—Deep Ocean Research Center—Ocean Museum” project

On January 4, 2026, Qikun XUE, President of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), led a team to conduct an inspection tour of the “Shenzhen Ocean University–Deep Ocean Research Center–Ocean Museum” project. Participants included Professor Xiaodong HAN, acting vice president; Academician Jian LIN, Director of the Advanced Institute For Ocean Research at SUSTech and Head of the preparation for Shenzhen Ocean University; Siqi CHEN, Secretary-General of SUSTech and Executive Vice Dean of the Advanced Institute for Ocean Research; Academician Bi ZHANG, Chair Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering; Academician Qiang XU, Chair Professor of the Department of Chemistry; Zhimei HE, Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of Dapeng New District; and Yongqian FENG, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen City.

Qikun XUE and his team visited the living area, scientific and educational area, and transitional campus of Shenzhen Ocean University on site, and listened to Academician Jian Lin’s report on the progress of the “Three Oceans” project (Shenzhen Ocean University-Deep Ocean Research Center-Ocean Museum). Qikun XUE fully affirmed the phased achievements of the “Three Oceans” project and expressed full confidence in Shenzhen Ocean University’s goal of building a first-class university with distinctive characteristics. He stated that Shenzhen Ocean University should focus on the international forefront, serve the country’s major needs and the development of the Greater Bay Area, attract global talents, cultivate urgently needed high-end professionals, emphasize its deep-sea characteristics, create major platforms, and make significant contributions to the development of the national marine career.

The main campus of Shenzhen Ocean University (Phase I) began construction in July 2023. The East Campus (residential area) was completed and passed the initial inspection at the end of 2025; the West Campus (science and education area) was fully topped out by the end of 2025 and is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2026.
