February 25 is the first day of the spring semester of 2026 at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). University President Qikun XUE and Vice President and Provost Hongwei FANG led a team to conduct an “immersive” classroom inspection at Chi Wah Lecture Hall and Lecture Hall 1, and they communicated with teachers and students.

“Advanced Materials Chemistry” Class

Qikun XUE and his team conducted in-depth visits to general education and professional courses such as College Physics, Advanced Mathematics, SUSTech English, and Introduction to Life Sciences to observe the teaching practices on site. In the University Physics class, Qikun XUE affirmed the teacher’s instructional design of enhancing student interaction through small in-class experiments and participated in the experiment session with the teacher. In the graduate-level Advanced Materials Chemistry class, Qikun XUE paused to observe the instructor’s English-medium lecture and encouraged the instructor to continue to strengthen the integration of research and teaching.

During the course inspection, Qikun XUE and his team carefully checked the operational status of the teaching infrastructure and fully affirmed the teaching preparatory work carried out before the start of the semester. Qikun XUE stated that the classroom is the main battlefield for talent cultivation, and teaching quality is the core competitiveness of universities. In the new semester, the school should continue to focus on the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, take classroom teaching reform as the breakthrough, continuously improve the teaching management system, optimize the allocation of teaching resources, and build a higher-quality teaching and learning platform. He urged all functional departments and colleges to work closely together, unite their efforts, and forge ahead, making every effort to further enhance the quality of education and teaching, and jointly write a new chapter in the school’s talent cultivation.

To ensure the smooth progress of teaching work in the new semester, relevant departments and teaching units have prepared teaching plans and arranged class schedules in advance to provide comprehensive services and support for students’ course selection. At the same time, before the start of the semester, the multimedia operation and maintenance team organized with property and classroom management personnel to conduct inspections of over 150 teaching venues across the campus, including multimedia classrooms, computer rooms, and the auditorium at Faculty Research Building 1, to ensure normal operation of equipment and provide support for the smooth conduct of teaching in the spring semester.

According to statistics, a total of 28 units will offer courses in the spring semester of 2026, including 676 undergraduate courses (1,118 classes) and 242 postgraduate courses (309 classes).
