On April 8, 2026, Tiangang LUAN, Chancellor of Wuyi University (WYU), and his delegation visited our university for research and exchange. Hong JIANG, University Council Chairperson of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Ling ZHANG, University Council Vice-Chairperson, and heads of relevant schools, departments, and administrative units received the guests.

Tiangang LUAN introduced Wuyi University’s educational positioning and development plan, fully affirming the cooperation achievements both sides had made in project applications, talent cultivation, and platform construction. He stated that as a new-type research university, SUSTech has successful experiences in basic research, organized scientific research, and achievement transformation that are worth learning from in depth. At present, Wuyi University has already established broad and stable cooperative relationships with national universities jointly built under the Belt and Road Initiative. He looks forward to using the joint construction of a Belt and Road Laboratory as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation with SUSTech in areas such as new energy, emergency preparedness and disaster prevention, and talent cultivation, working together to contribute to the construction of a strong education powerhouse. 

Hong JIANG stated that Wuyi University is the first local university in the history of Chinese education, collectively established by overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao. Deepening comprehensive and precise cooperation between the two universities is not only a responsibility to serve the nation’s Belt and Road Initiative but also a pragmatic measure to promote the integrated development of education, science, technology, and talent in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is hoped that both sides will further strengthen resource alignment, accelerate the application process for the Belt and Road Joint Laboratory, and ensure the efficient advancement of all construction work.

During the discussion, both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on the construction of the Belt and Road Joint Laboratory, joint talent cultivation, discipline construction, and co-development of research projects.

Tiangang LUAN and his delegation also visited SUSTech’s achievements exhibition to gain a detailed understanding of the educational development at SUSTech.

Wenhua CHEN, Vice President of WYU; Li LIU, Assistant to the President of SUSTech; Academician Jian LIN, Director of the Advanced Institute for Ocean Research (AIOR) at SUSTech and Head of the Shenzhen Ocean University Preparatory Office, and an academician of the European Academy of Sciences, among others, attended the event.
