Two professional group standards for organoids, led by the team of Assistant Professor Liang LI from the Department of Pharmacology of the School of Medicine at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), were officially released. Among them, the group standard “Guidelines for the Construction and Application of Human Adult Stem Cell-Derived Respiratory System Organoids” was issued by the Standardization Working Committee of China International Association for the Promotion of Science and Technology on March 16, 2026, and the group standard “Construction and Technical Requirements of Human Adult Stem Cell-Derived Liver Organoids” was released by the Shenzhen Association of Testers and Analysts on March 24, 2026.

The two standards respectively focus on the construction, identification, and application of respiratory system and liver organoids, providing, for the first time, a unified and standardized technical operation framework in the related fields. The standards clarify the entire technical pathway from tissue sample collection, primary cell isolation, organoid culture and passage to cryopreservation and recovery; and propose specific requirements for ethical review, biosafety, and quality control. The standards aim to address common issues in current organoid research, such as inconsistent procedures and poor comparability of results.

The release of these two standards provides a comprehensive and detailed standardized operation framework for the construction and application of human adult stem cell-derived organoids in China. It will help improve the reliability of experimental data and the reproducibility of experimental operations. It will accelerate the translation of basic research achievements into clinical applications, and provide authoritative technical references for related biopharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations, and medical institutions, contributing to the standardized and high-quality development of organoid research and industry in China.
