The 20^th Guangdong Orienteering Provincial Championship and the 2026 Greater Bay Area (Dongguan) Orienteering Invitational wrapped up in Dongguan Binhaiwan Bay Area. The Southern University of Science and Technology’s (SUSTech) orienteering team won a gold, a silver, and a bronze.

This year’s event is the highest-level and longest-running official orienteering competition in the province. After twenty years of tradition, it has innovatively introduced the short-distance knockout international competition format, bringing together 87 teams from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, and nearly a thousand athletes competing on the same stage. 

SUSTech’s orienteering team saw Funing YANG from Shude College take first place in the women’s short-distance knockout race and seventh in the women’s short-distance race. Zhuoya HOU from Zhiren College came in third in the women’s short-distance knockout race and fifth in the women’s short-distance race. Haotian DING from Shude College took second place in the men’s points race, and Coach Xiyuan LIANG from SUSTech’s Sports Center was recognized as an outstanding coach. The team took sixth place overall in the women’s team scores. 

Thanks to their excellent performance at this provincial championship, Zhuoya HOU and Funing YANG were successfully selected for the Shenzhen orienteering team for the Guangdong Provincial Games and will represent Shenzhen in the provincial games from July 12^th to 15^th.
