On December 2, 2013, the SUSTC-HKBU Joint Workshop on Organic Electronics and Advanced Materials was successfully held in our library conference hall 1. Invited by Prof. Yongye Liang and Prof. Xugang Guo from the department of materials science and engineering of SUSTC, 13 scientists from Hong Kong Baptist University and SUSTC presented their research progress and exchanged their ideas on organic electronics and advanced materials in the workshop. The joint workshop enhanced the communications and connections between HKBU and SUSTC on the related fields and provided a good platform for their future collaborations.
The joint workshop started at 10 am with the warm welcome by Prof. Xing Cheng from the department of materials science and engineering of SUSTC. Prof. Cheng briefly introduced the recent development of SUSTC and the departmentof materials science and engineering, then he chaired the morning section.
Professor Beng S. Ong from HKBU firstly delivered a talk titled“Materials Design for Printed Transistors”. In the presentation, Professor Beng S. Ong introduced the concept of organic thin-film transistors and elaborated thedesign and synthesis of high-performance semiconducting polymers for printed transistors. He pointed out the materials and processing challenges for printed transistors. Then, Prof. Xugang Guo gave a talk on imide-functionalized semiconducting polymers for high-performance organic thin-film transistors and solar cells. Prof. Yongye Liang presented his research on polymer solar cells and nanocarbon hybrid materials for electrochemical energy conversion. Prof. Ricky M.S. Wong and Prof. Raymond W.Y. Wong from HKBU delivered their research progresses on “fusedaromatic-based functional materials for optoelectronic applications” and “metallatedand metal-free molecular materials for energy conversion in organic solar cellsand OLEDs,” respectively. They are all among the frontiers of organic electronic researches.
Professor Ong chaired the joint workshop in the afternoon. Three faculty members from HKBU, Prof. Furong Zhu, Prof. Shu Kong So and Prof. Ken C. F. Leung delivered their talks on semitransparent organicsolar cells, gate dielectric layers in thin film transistors, and surface control based on switchable supramolecules & nanoparticles, respectively. Prof. Xing Cheng, Prof. Dazhi Sun, Prof. Zhouguang Lu and Prof. Peng Yu from SUSTC presented their researches on organic electronics from engineering perspectives, nanoscale soft matter, collection and application of heavy metals, and powder metallurgy, respectively. They made in-depth discussions on related issues of advanced materials.
SUSTC-HKBU joint workshop attracted extensive attention from students and researchers in SUSTC. After the presentation section, the participating faculties from both universities had a group discussion to explore the fields and models for their future collaborations. (Renxuan Liu from MSE)
