In the morning of September 23, 2015, the director of Guangdong Department of Education, Luo Weiqi and his team came to visited SUSTC, the chairperson of university council Li Ming, president Chen Shiyi, vice-presidents Qin Zheng,Wu Chuanyue and Tang Tao, the secretary-general Dong Chaojun, the chief accountant Ye Qin, the deputy director of Preparatory Office Han Wei, Chief Operating Officer Lu Chun and relevant department heads attended the above activities.

Luo Weiqi and his delegation visited construction planning sand table of our school at first, and learned about the campus construction on site and inspected the construction of school laboratory. In laboratories of Professor He Jiaqing and Professor Chen Lang of the Department of Physics, Luo learned about the discipline planning, laboratory conditions and the current main directions of the department in detail, and he encouraged us to aim at the forefront and play a leading role in the regional innovation system.

Later on, Luo went to laboratories of Liu Xinyuan and Tan Bin, teachers from Chemistry Department, he highly appreciated the corecreation of the two teachers in their professional field, and also indicated that the team reflected the innovation level and capability of teachers in SUSTC.

Chen Shiyi is making a speech

At the meeting held later, Chen Shiyi reported the development situations and related assumptions for the next development of the school. He emphatically introduced the recent development situations of talented person team and new measures and progress in cultivation of innovative talents. He pointed out that, a few days ago, with the strong support of the provincial party committee and government, the provincial education department, Shenzhen City and SUSTC jointly built a polytechnic university with high level, which reflected that Guangdong Province’s strongly support of SUSTC. SUSTC will consider building a polytechnic university with high level as the objective to make new explorations in aspects of institutional innovation, discipline construction, talent team, student cultivation,technological innovation and industry-university-research cooperation, to promote SUSTC forward to the world-class research university.

Li Ming thanked the provincial party committee and governmentof Guangdong Province and the provincial department of education for their support in the process of construction and development of SUSTC in his speech,he introduced the implementation conditions of the governance system of the board of directors in SUSTC and the principal responsibility system under the leadership of the Party in detail, and said that SUSTC will continue to focus on constructingan excellent university, persist in reforming and innovation and accelerate the pace of construction of an international high-level research university following the established direction. Li Ming pointed out that SUSTC gathered alarge group of best teachers and best students; the school will firmly grasp the socialist direction of running universities, strengthen ideological education and cultivate elite talents. He also described the construction situations of the construction conditions of Higher Education Innovation Centreof United Nations Class II Institution in Shenzhen undertaken by SUSTC in his speech.

Luo Weiqi made a speech in the symposium. He said that the campus of SUSTC was very beautiful, the students were full of energy, the innovative school-running mechanism worked well and the reforming began to have achievement. Recently, in the aspect of teaching staff construction, the joining of a group of academic leaders and young scholars laid a very good foundation for construction of faculty; thoughts of disciplinary development was very clear, establishment of cross-over study, colleges and departments had reflected characteristics that focusing on the basis and having frontier crossing, so we should stick to exploring for the formation of our own features. He pointed out that SUSTC had entered a very good development period,and he hoped that SUSTC would continue to carry out the systematic reforming and planning, try to create a new pathfor China’s higher education, and build SUSTC into a world-class university.
