SUSTech Chairperson Guo Yurong leads team to Heyuan in social responsibility project

In order to comprehensively implement the central, provincial and municipal governments’ efforts of poverty alleviation and fulfill SUSTech’s social responsibility in the region, University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong led a group to Heyuan City in Heping County in order to participate in the cultivation of passion fruits.

On October 31, the team arrived in Heyuan city, and were led into Heping County on an inspection of the agricultural area. Under the centralised program of poverty alleviation which aims to tackle the hardships of low-income populations of China, acres of passion fruit have been planted to support the local community.

Vice President of the Leading Group of Futian District, Shenzhen, Deputy Director of the Working Group of the Futian District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province Vice Minister of the Party Committee of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Ye Zhixiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China, Secretary General of SUSTech Wang Yongjie, deputy director of the town party committee mayor Huang Ge, SUSTech Assets Management Co., Ltd. General Manager Li Jipeng, Village First Secretary Zeng Shichuan, party branch secretary Chao Tiancun, as well as the SUSTech university leaders were present to attend the gathering.

The group visited low-income households to talk with the residents of the village and offer their support, and took the opportunity to learn more about people’s living conditions.

During the afternoon, Guo Yurong and the rest of the group visited the government officials of Heyuan City to discuss.

At noon on the 31st, Guo Yurong and his party visited the leaders of Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, Heyuan Municipal Committee Standing Committee and Deputy Mayor. They exchanged ideas on the city’s high-tech development zone, and highlighted the importance of poverty alleviation work to continue to bring a better life quality to the residents.
